I spent the past four years engrossed in the story of a man who served as a soldier in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI. (The story is told in Rooted and Remembered, available on Amazon.)
Why do I have such an interest in that era? Well, my own grandfather (picture seated) enlisted in the CEF in 1916 and served in France and Germany. He's pictured here with his cousin, who signed up at the same time. Both men made it home, but I'm told that my grandfather never spoke about his time overseas, except for one story about his homecoming (next novel, maybe?).
It's vital that we remember where we came from. I never met my grandfather, but I do make room in my heart for his memory and the sacrifice he made. #LestWeForget
